Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs got great news at practice on Wednesday

Patrick Mahomes is one step closer to returning to action for the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.

The biggest question this upcoming week will be if Patrick Mahomes can play for the Kansas City Chiefs. Things are looking better by the minute.

According to head coach Andy Reid, Mahomes returned to practice for the first time this week in preparation for the AFC Championship matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Reid stated that the fourth-year quarterback did take “all the snaps” in practice, but remains in concussion protocol.

Mahomes wasn’t the only Chiefs standout who returned to practice. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, wide receiver Sammy Watkins, cornerback Rashad Fenton and defensive back Bashaud Breeland also retuned to action for the first time in over a week.

Rookie linebacker Willie Gay has still not practiced since suffering a high-ankle sprain.

Kansas City is getting healthy at the right moment

Edwards-Helaire missed the final two games of the season with an ankle injury. Watkins was ruled out with a calf injury and both stars missed the Divisional Round victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Fenton and Breeland’s return is a sense of ease for the Chiefs’ secondary. Fenton was out after suffering ankle and knee injuries in the season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers. Breeland, who started last week, left the game early with a head injury and did not return.

Anything to remain healthy for Kansas City is essential, but the relief come back to Mahomes. Although not out of the woods entirely, things are trending up for him to play at home one final time this season. And with the Bills looking to make their first Super Bowl since the 1993 season, they’ll be entering Arrowhead with a chip on their shoulder.

Mahomes’ return is a great sign for the Chiefs’ outlook and a terrible one for Buffalo should everyone be healthy in time for kickoff Sunday evening.
