UFC Vegas 17: Stephen Thompson vs. Geoff Neal live results and highlights.
The UFC will finally conclude its schedule for this weird, bizarre, awful year known as 2020 with UFC Vegas 17, once again held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. Because 2020 ruins everything, the originally planned main event between Leon Edwards and Khazmat Chimaev ended up being scrapped due to Edwards testing positive for COVID-19. Tonight’s scheduled main event, however, is nonetheless a potentially exciting clash as Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson meets Geoff Neal.
At 37, Thompson, the former two-time welterweight title challenger, is looking to make one last push for a title shot. Neal, on the other hand, is looking to break through and get the biggest win of his career to prove he is worth having in the contender conversation.
A similar scenario is also on display in the co-main event as former featherweight champion Jose Aldo meets Marlon Vera. Aldo is still looking for his first win at bantamweight and comes in riding a three-fight losing streak, including a loss to Petr Yan at UFC 251 in a fight for the then-vacant bantamweight title. Vera, meanwhile, comes in riding the momentum of his win over Sean O’Malley at UFC 252.
The rest of the card will play action to more potentially exciting bouts and fighters, including a showdown between Michel Pereira and Khaos Williams, as well as the likes of Marlon Moraes, Anthony Pettis and Sijara Eubanks in action.
